We're making improvements
We're sorry to inform you that due to building work Cabhalan will not be available to rent this year between 21st April and 29th September 2018. Apologies to our regular guests and those interested to stay - back to normal in 2019!!
Anny & Jerry Luty
Cabhalan Cottage Harris is an ideal location for those seeking an 'away-from-it-all' holiday.
A cosy modernised crofthouse dating from around 1780 in a secluded, peaceful spot 100 metres from the seashore and enjoying uninterrupted views across the sea to Skye, the Cuillins and the west coast of Scotland (as well as views of many otters on the shore below!).
The single storey cottage was originally a 'blackhouse' with walls up to 5 feet (1.5 metres) thick! Fully renovated, it now has all mod-cons, lots of character and is a simple but comfortable dwelling.
The nearest house is half a mile away in each direction and there is a small sheltered bay with anchorage behind the cottage.
Heating is via ceiling-mounted infrared heat panels, there is also an electric water heater. We leave you some peat for the sitting room wood-burner.
The cottage has satellite broadband Internet connection, a telephone and stereo CD player/radio. All electricity and local telephone calls are included in the weekly rental. There are a range of books and games so that in inclement weather you can enjoy watching the wild seas from the warm comfort of the kitchen recessed window seats. All bedding is provided except towels unless specially requested.
Ideal for fishing, boating (details available on request), walking and beachcombing; there are sea-birds, otters, seals and basking sharks to be seen. Nearby are empty beaches, mountains and a golf-course.
Of interest is the Iron Age history of the isles including the Callanish stone circles and the Ley Lines. There are many local artists and traditional craft skills not to mention the long and fascinating Celtic and pre-Celtic culture and Gaelic language.
Walkers & Cyclists are of course very welcome at Cabhalan
Cabhalan Cottage is suitable for those with mobility difficulties
The nearest post office is in Leverburgh (6 miles) where there is a very well stocked grocery shop, café and gift shop and petrol/diesel pumps. Coal, wood and Calor gas are also available.
If you wish to locate the cottage on Ordnance survey sheet 14 the grid reference is 098880.
